Cloister of Saint Francis

Situated in the historic centre of Chiusi, it is said to have been built following a visit by Saint Francis in 1212. Built on the site of a pre-existing church dedicated to Saint Michael, which in turn was founded on an Etruscan temple, it laid out in a Latin cross plan with a single nave, while the façade is in terracotta and travertine, separated by three arches resting on Solomonic columns which frame the Gothic doorway. On the right-hand side, there is another thirteenth century doorway decorated with a spiral pattern and the architrave supported by sculpted brackets. The interior, renovated in the 18th century, preserves traces of frescoes from various periods.
