Bagno Grande - the large pools

The thermal waters, emerging from the volcanic aquifer, flow into the large pools from the sixteenth century. The thermal baths, frequented as far back as the Etruscan and Roman time, have been visited by illustrious figures, such as Pope Pious II, Catherine of Siena, Lorenzo de' Medici and many artists who chose to spend their vacation in the village. 
The thermal waters flow towards the steep escarpment of the Mulini Natural Park where there are four medieval mills carved into the rock which played an important role in the local economy.
