Celle sul Rigo, bell tower

Situated in Celle sul Rigo, a village in the municipality of San Casciano dei Bagni, was part of the Castrum Cellis, a fortified settlement whose origins date back to the year 900, while the definitive layout dates back to 1400-1500. The fortification of the village throughout history was due to its coveted strategic position, contested between Siena and Orvieto.
Climbing to the top of the tower which was restored and made safe in 2010, you can admire a spectacular 360° view, taking in the Val di Paglia, Radicofani and Monte Amiata, ravines and rooftops of the village, as well as reaching the four bells and large, old clock mechanism.
